COMMUNITY ACTIV8 AT A GLANCE
The Community Activ8 initiative is designed to foster mental wellness among the youth of New York City. Through our programs, we spread awareness in low-income communities where mental health issues are often overlooked, undiagnosed and untreated. We partner with local providers and organizations with similar missions to provide access to free or low-cost mental health services. We incorporate NYC's youth into the mental health community by hosting members-only sporting events and competitions. Membership is free by simply signing up on our website. We invite leading experts to speak at community events, offer insight into what it means to be mentally fit, and prompt discussion. We have mental health providers and insurance companies on hand to walk members through the simple process of signing up and obtaining care. Community Activ8 is a member of the Federation of Neighborhood Centers, a nonprofit who's served their communities since 1906.
Approximately 1 in 5 youth aged 13–18 (21.4%) experiences a severe mental disorder at some point during their life.
